Mission Accomplished...
But The Beat Goes On. I finally got to see The Rezillos on Saturday night @ The Garage, Highbury.
When they appeared on stage and started with a lackluster performance of Destination Venus, I thought perhaps time had taken its toll and that Faye and Eugene were looking a bit too old for this kind of thing. I was of course wrong.
Gradually the crowd got into it. Jo Callis cranked up his guitar, Eugene took control and Faye sang, danced and wailed like it was the last party in the world. The (mostly tattooed) crowd were into it like it was 1978 again. (My Baby Does) Good Sculptures, Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head kicked In Tonight, Mystery Action and the ace Top Of The Pops were all played with gusto. The only song missing for me was Thunderbirds Are Go.
Support was provided by the ever exciting female rock 'n' roll quartet The Priscillas. This is what going to live gigs is all about. A real breath of fresh air, a great performance. Women with Oooomph! Yeah!
