Booty Call

In a recent post I made a remark about getting a 'booty'.

Surprisingly I've had a query about this use of the word booty. For me, when you 'get a booty' you are getting a wet foot - i.e. a boot full of water.

However, Wikipedia doesn't help in my attempt to support this meaning of the word and sadly, a google search for booty returns all sorts of pages about (mostly large black) arses*; e.g. 'Phat Booty Hoes' - what's that all about then? Fat men gardening with wet feet?

Pirates come behind backsides in the booty search. A Pirate's booty could I suppose mean his treasure, his arse or his wet boot. I wonder if a Pirate can 'shake his booty' and if so what does that mean?

This is all very confusing. I can picture several situations where a misunderstanding of the word's usage might cause problems. I guess it's all about context. So far I've only found one page that affirms my use of booty. It would be a shame if this meaning were to die out. There aren't many Pirates left either. One day we might just be left with arses.

* not asses - they are Donkeys

Of even more interest is the associated word Badonkadonk.

I didn't know that such a thing as non-auditory onomatopoeia existed!

I hadn't clicked on that link as I'd thought it would be rude.

Who would have thought that reading about buttocks could be so interesting?

And educational... I've learnt such a lot this afternoon about you; Your tour of England and stay in Paris. Even Nelson Mandela's a fan!

Thanks for coming out from behind your 'curtain of shame' and posting.

Shiver me timbers, me hearties!

All this talk of booty and pirates makes the warning "Avast behind!" take on a whole new meaning...

Now I must be off and check my futtock shrouds and then sluice down me poop deck.

It must be a quiet day at sea today.

Arrgh! Quite the opposite, landlubber.

The sea is rougher than a Portsmouth tavern - Me and my ship mates are getting tossed all over the place.
