Face The Music
I'm going to see Ryan Adams & The Cardinals play @ Shepherds Bush tonight. I was planning to prepare by revisiting Ryan's last few albums: 29, Jacksonville City Nights and the fab Cold Roses but for some reason I seem to have lost interest. In my mind the guy is a genius... but you never know whether his gigs are going to be sublime or ridiculous. Recent reports suggest that the band are entering into extensive jams onstage which is a little worrying. So I'm going along not expecting much. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. His new website is great by the way - there's currently a very funny 'rap' track that plays on the homepage. After that you can press buttons on his spaceship control panel, listen to a few songs and even play Missile Command! Cool.
So what have I been doing instead of listening to Ryan? I've been sitting here on this, let me have a look, grey and watery Sunday morning listening to a few newly remastered ELO albums. Fantastic! I love Jeff Lynne's singing, Bev's heavy drum thumping, the strings, backwards messages and sci-fi phasing...
EE-EVAL WO-MAN (danga danga danga dang da da) - Yeah!
