King of the Boogymen
My apologies for this post being a little premature but I won't be around for the next couple of weeks. Whilst I'm away I'll be missing my most favourite night of the year - All Hallows Eve - the night when that guy in the Shatner mask, Michael Myers, keeps returning to Haddonfield and slicing up teens...
"I met him fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no, uh, conscience, no understanding and even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six year old child with this blind, pale, emotionless face, and the blackest eyes, the devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply evil..."

John Carpenter and Debra Hill's original Halloween came out in 1978. Every year since then filmmakers have been trying to find a new boogyman to scare people shitless. As I've mentioned above, Michael Myers has been back many times. We've also had umpteen Freddy, Jason and Pinhead movies. This year it's Jigsaw who will be threatening to cut us up in SAW III, which given I & II should be quite good. So, who will be the king of the boogymen next year? It looks like good old Michael will be regaining his crown...
October 2007 : Rob Zombie's re-imagining of Halloween
The Americanized Halloween 'holiday', driven by toy and greetings card companies, is becoming more and more popular every year over here in the UK . Soon it'll be as big as Christmas! This is fine by me as it's all good fun. If only we could have more references to Halloween's Celtic pagan roots and less of the pumpkins.
It's getting late and I'm feeling a little hungry, so I'm going to have a midnight Feast before I go to bed. It's time for me to sign off, I'll be back on Bonfire Night. Until then, be good little boys and ghouls.
