The Lakes - Part 4 of 4
For anyone(?) out there waiting for the exciting conclusion of my Lake District saga - here it is!
The yomping for miles around The Langdales had taken a lot out of me. An ill-fitting left walking shoe had bruised the sole of my foot, leaving me a bit lame (if I was horse I would have been shot). This really dictated what I was able to do on my final day. I was hoping to walk along Borrowdale or visit Wast Water but I was really restricted to just being able to drive somewhere and walk a couple of hundred yards at most.
The easiest thing to do was to go down the road to Windermere and take a boat trip, which was quite a nice sedate thing to do.
In the afternoon I drove up to Ullswater. I managed to walk along to the Aira Force and High Force waterfalls before taking a look at the lake, which was probably the most calm, quiet, serene thing I've ever seen. Quite magical.
Hopefully I'll return to the Lakes next year - with better maps and shoes!
