2006: Death, Destruction and Dolphins

So 2006 is all but gone. Over the last few days the News media has been bombarding us with repeated reports about all of the disastrous things that have happened during the year. With a touch of gravitas they are also listing the host of famous people that have died.

Given everything that has happened on this planet I'm actually surprised that I've made it through the year without succumbing to a flu pandemic, global warming, AIDS, obesity, terrorism and/or Noel Edmonds.

Is there some 'grand design' that shapes all of the death and destruction going on around us? Is there a point to it all? Well I'd answer 'No' to both of these questions.

Are we all here for a reason? Normally I'd say 'No' to this one as well; however, one story this year is making me think that maybe we are. Could the World's tallest man have been put on this earth in order to save the life of two Dolphins by putting his arm down their throats? BBC News Story
