21st Century Girl
Last month on BBC Four there was a pretty depressing series debating the merits of popular music in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Which of the these decades had the best music? Discuss! A panel of music industry 'experts' had to decide, based on presentations and arguments put forward to them, the winning decade. Of course the 1970's won with its wide musical scope, ranging from Rock to Disco and from Prog to Punk. Hell, it was an easy win and that was without anyone even having to mention ELO!
So which decade was the least popular? Yes, you've guessed it - the 90's! Britpop, Grunge and the loss of a sense of fun and entertainment. Chris Evans and Shed Seven failed to save the UK music scene.
Now it's 2008 and what have we got to show for it? The Feeling and Scouting For Girls? Good grief! Who can save us from the UK music scene?
Helen's world is one of a permanent Saturday nite disco, with punk boys and pop girls dancing to the Ramones and finding love under a glitterball. It was like that 10 years ago and today it's still the same! Some music critics may sneer that she hasn't moved on, but as Helen says It's My Club And I'll Play What I Want. And quite right too. I know what I'm getting when listening to a Helen Love album: timeless pure pop-your-bubblegum fun. A shot in the arm, a sugar fix, and the sunshine of summer days bathing my living room through the speakers. Hey Ho. Let's Go!
The new album features the singles Debbie Loves Joey, It's My Club and Junkshop Discotheque. Another standout track is First Boyfriend - a treat for everyone like me who remembers how cool Kryptonics were! Listen to Staying In and more!
