It's Ben and Marah, innit

Hey, I must be leading a Rock'n'Roll lifestyle! I had the pleasure of seeing two gigs in London this week...

On Tuesday I, semi-reluctantly, followed a friend down into the depths of the 100 Club to see a show by Aussie singer/songwriter Ben Lee. Not being familiar with any of Ben's material I wasn't expecting much. However, early on he played a good version of Jonathan Richman's 'Back In Your Life' (with adapted lyrics) and my brain eased into the show. Some nice, pleasant tunes about love and life, and his boyish looks proved to be a big hit with his mostly young female audience. At times I found it hard to keep my eyes on what was happening on stage! An enjoyable night. I must try and find an ELO tribute album that I've got somewhere. Apparently Ben Lee provided a track for it. Memory fades as you get older...

Wednesday brought a ride up the Northern Line to the Barfly in Camden to see an 'acoustic' gig by Marah. Over on a promotional trip for their new album, brothers Dave and Serge Bielanko, accompanied on keys (and occasional bass) by Kirk 'The Barber' Henderson, ran through a great career spanning set including a few newies. They are coming back to London on November 20th to play a full band blast at the 100 Club. More posts about this and the new album to come.
