That's Magic!
Magicians eh? Ali Bongo, David Nixon or Paul Daniels? Who was the greatest? How would they fare in an all out battle against David Copperfield or the one who wasn't chewed by the Tiger? My money would be on Ali Bongo disabling his opponents with his Chinese finger traps!
This year true magic will materialise in our cinemas. Two films, The Prestige and The Illusionist will aim to entertain, mesmerise and distract their audiences.
The Prestige stars Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as two competitive turn of the century magicians. It's directed by Christopher Nolan who can do no wrong at the moment (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins). Check out the exciting trailer - you'll spot Michael Caine and a well known popstar (who has one green eye and one blue eye). It looks very promising indeed.
In The Illusionist, Edward Norton plays another mysterious stage magician. If its trailer is anything to go by then it could be good as well. I'm really looking forward to seeing both. I love the idea of magic and misdirection in movies - Clive Barker's Lord Of Illusions is a favourite of mine, a underrated gem - "you'll like it, not a lot, but you'll like it".
Who will win the battle of magicians at the box office in 2006?
