The Lakes - Part 2 of 4
I began Sunday morning by filling up with a big breakfast that included some kind of Cumbrian Sausage and a bit of Herring - much needed food for the long day of walking ahead.
My first excursion was a 6 mile round-trip trail that started in the small village of Hawkshead.
From Hawkshead I headed off the road, across fields and up hills, bumping into the odd friendly local (left). Although it was a bit cloudy at first, the sun came out as I reached my target, the lovely Tarn Hows.
Tarn Hows is one of the few locations in the country these days where you might spot a Red Squirrel. I think I may have seen a couple darting around amongst the trees. I'm sure they weren't the larger Grey variety - I see them most days when I'm at home, waving at me through my bedroom window.
In the afternoon, once refreshed by a pot of tea and a toasted teacake, I decided to visit the nearby Grizedale Forest Park where there are several nice walking and cycling trails that wind through the trees. What makes it even more interesting is that there are around 90 metal, wood and stone sculptures dotted around the forest for you to encounter on your chosen path.
At night, tired and a little footsore, I retired early to rest up for the following day.
