Aah! That is a Wenus, no?

Well I could have watched KING KONG last night. It's a great movie but since I was tired I decided to save it for another day. I didn't want to doze off during it and miss any piece of Peter Jackson's great film making achievement. So what did I do instead? Did I go bed? No, I ended up watching a film that just happened to be on the TV; A film that I first saw many years ago as part of a cinema double bill. A memorable film that has stuck in my mind ever since then, unlike the other half of the bill... which I can't remember.

Carry On Behind is by most people's critical standards, smutty crap. I have to agree... but I kind of like it! OK it's one of the last Carry On's and is nowhere near as good as the classics of the series like 'Up The Khyber', 'Screaming' or 'Cleo', however it is infinitely better than the stinking 'Carry On England' and 'Carry On Emmannuelle' that were to be made after it.

It is a Wenus!
I'll not bother describing the 'plot' as I don't think there really is one. Carry On Behind is just basically one continuous stream of crude sexual double entendres and innuendo. Credit must go the cast and crew as it must have been very hard to maintain it for 90 minutes. What was on the screen certainly got my attention and kept me up into the early hours.

Elke Summer is sexy and funny, and Carry On regulars like Kenneth Williams, Joan Simms and Kenneth O' Conner are as good as their material allows. The trouble is that Jack Douglas, Bernard Bresslaw and Windsor Davies all have prominent parts. Oh dear, it makes for awful but fascinating viewing, a bit like a car crash I guess.

Here's a trailer.
