Code 10-31: Jump you shall not
Today I thought I'd hire a bike and head over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Then I changed my mind and decided to walk, firstly passing through the Presidio in search of Yoda, then over the bridge and taking the coastal walk across the Marin Headlands in order to visit an old ICBM site - with missiles! Well that was the plan...
George Lucas moved his vast Digital Effects operation down from Marin County to the Presidio area of SF. The only sign that Lucas is there is apparently a statue of Yoda. Could I find it? No. Not even using the Force. It must have been obscured by the Dark Side.
Already having walked quite a way I yomped along to the bridge and headed across, dodging cyclists speeding past. It's a big bridge! Another fine sunny day giving a fantastic view of the city. No reason for anyone to jump today.
Once across the bridge I headed towards the Marin Headlands. I spotted the coastal trail and made my way along several miles of steep twisting paths. By now I was getting really knackered and, with no water to drink, was wilting in the heat. Some great scenery but where was the missile silo? Like Yoda it remained out of my reach. Eventually I gave up and started my way back down the hilly terrain.
I decided not to return over the bridge but to walk on to Sausalito on the bike path I was going to take originally. Feet aching and knees shaking I eventually arrived just in time for a quick cuppa and Cheesecake before catching a ferry back to the city.
A really exhausting day. Next time I'm here I'll hire a bike!
