Better Later than never

There are going to be several good acts tonight on Later... With Jools Holland; Arctic Monkeys, CSS and The Hold Steady. Not too shabby!

I was in a chain record store yesterday and I found it kinda weird that the excellent CSS and Hold Steady albums were being prominently displayed in the 'new releases' section. Both bands have been hard at work for what seems like ages, building on their reputations, gig after gig. Now, with their albums being re-released and the Jool's TV appearance, it looks like all that sweat and booze might have finally paid off!

Not tired of being sexy

I've just got back from a nice gig by Brazilian popsters CSS at the Scala in Kings Cross, London. Having just their eponymous album to promote (perhaps the best album of the year?) the show was short and sweet. Singer Lovefoxxx was a bundle of energy as she surfed on and danced in the crowd. I love their attitude and sense of fun. The set of thumping drums and crashing guitars finished with a cover of L7's Let's Pretend That we're Dead.

Here's a cool vid of one of the many singles from their CD...

Listen with Mother

The Get On The Beam Jukebox has been recently updated with great tracks from Jim Noir, Bobby Bare Jr and The Supersuckers. The rest of the top 10 includes The Scanners, CSS, Hot IQs, The Mathematicians, Carbon/Silicon and Mates of State. More than just background music. Enjoy.

Let's Make Love...

And Listen To Death From Above

The current single from Brazilian popsters CSS - Cansei de Ser Sexy.

This is a really infectious song that feels to me like a kind of Waitresses/Tom Tom Club hybrid for the 21st Century. It gets my toes a tapping'! For the last couple of nights I've been grooving around my living room listening to their eponymous album and drinking bottles of Brahma (a Brazilian beer, which coincidently just happens to be in my fridge).

Musk is my hot hot sex - Available from AmazonTheir CD is the most refreshing thing I've heard in a long time. It's a cool blend of Indie guitars and electro dance, with loads of catchy hooks. Singer Lovefoxxx's sexy vocals deliver some quirky artful lyrics. CSS are going to be big. How else can I describe this band?
They are like the Scissor Sisters... only good.

Want to hear another track? Alcohol has been on the Get On The Beam Jukebox for a few weeks.
