Carbon Credit

Mick Jones and Tony James are back!
From their forthcoming album - The Carbon Bubble, here's What's Up Doc? - a nice bit of thrash, accompanied by an excellent, fresh and funny animated video.

Carbon/Silicon - What's Up Doc?

I remember seeing Carbon/Silicon preview this song live at their Carbon Casino 9 gig in Hammersmith just before Christmas. At the time, it just passed over my head as a lot of loud concert noise. However, another new song, Unbelievable Pain, stood out as being something quite special. The Carbon Bubble sounds like it could be the album of the summer.

All Well Noisy on the Western Front

From just a few hours ago...

Carbon/Silicon started a North London groove at the Electric Ballroom in Camden. Here's the opener (and current single), 'The Magic Suitcase'...

Carbon/Silicon - The Magic Suitcase

The set showcased songs from their soon to be released album 'The Last Post', including a new track called 'Acton Zulus'. It was an enjoyable show, with a rousing performance of 'Why Do Men Fight?' to finish. I'm too tired right now to remember much more, except that there was no 'Soylent Green' (my favourite CSi song) - but hey WTF?

Make room! Make room!

Here is the news. Hot from my memory card, a few snaps from the excellent Carbon/Silicon gig at a packed Bush Hall, London. Just a couple of hours ago...

Veteran rockers Mick Jones and Tony James really seemed thrilled to be out of the studio and playing to a live audience. The band romped through a selection of tracks from their two free, Internet only, albums - A.T.O.M. and Western Front (now both deleted). The set ranged from their first ever song, 'MPfree', up to their current single 'The News'.

The crowd was of course mainly made up of old Clash and B.A.D. fans like myself but it was good to see quite a few teenagers there with their parents! Good rock 'n' roll spans the generations.

Cracking Up!

Mick Jones and Tony James deliver even more great tunes. Again!

The third official album from Carbon/Silicon is called "The Crack-Up Suite" and like its predecessors it's officially downloadable for FREE!

The Crack-Up Suite is a 6 track mini album; the first E.P. of four songs is available now from their website, with the remaining two going up soon.

I believe in MP3, I believe in P2P, I just burnt my own CD the day the music was free... in the 21st century - the day the music was free!
Be good to yourself - see Carbon/Silicon play live at Bush Hall, West London on May 31st (my thanks to Musty MC for the tickets).

Diamond Geezers

Mick, have you seen my Love Missile?Mick Jones and Tony James continue to make free music available as Carbon/Silicon. The best of the new tracks, The Whole Truth, I've added to the Get On The Beam Jukebox (see sidebar). Check out their site for more. www.carbonsiliconinc.com

More old geezers now, a few pics from the Buzzcocks concert in Camden last Thursday. Koko is a really great venue, although just 5 yards from the stage the sound sucked for the main set, which was a shame since it was good for the support band (The Adored) and the encore.

Buzzcocks were on top form, seemed to be enjoying every minute of it and the vibe spread around the bouncing crowd.

After blasting through 7 tracks from the new flat-pack philosophy album they raced into their hits without pausing for breath.

How Pete Shelley can sing so many words so fast is beyond me. Steve Diggle (Guitar & Vocals), Tony Barber (Bass) and Phil Barker (Drums) provided the driving energy.

Low res mobile phone camera photos are of course going to come out fuzzy and blurred.

This is a bit frustrating but they can capture a moment well and even accidently look a bit arty!

Not the last Word?

So what do you think about WORD Magazine? A bit dull? Yawn inducing? A not very inspiring read for 40+ Somethings? Written by old music journos for their mates to read? All of the above?

Well bugger me! I do believe the latest edition (November 2005) is actually very good. The first thing that is noticeable is that it is now called The WORD. So it's no longer any old WORD, it's The WORD.

A great cover (for a change) opens to reveal a comprehensive interview of Mick Jones by writer/broadcaster/professional Spurs fan Danny Kelly. This is not just a short, 'yeah, Joe Strummer was great' piece. It deals with Jones' time in The Clash and his relationship with Joe but also covers Big Audio Dynamite, his involvement with The Libertines and Babyshambles and his new project with Tony James, Carbon/Silicon.

Add to this a fun round-the-table chat about John Peel, a bit of Louis Theroux and an interview with Alan (Thunder Road on his iPod) Bennett, and it's value for money this month.

The latest issues of UNCUT and MOJO are also worth checking out:
UNCUT details the creation of Springsteen's Born To Run Album (with some cool pictures) and MOJO features the fabulous RAMONES plus a free New York Punk CD.

The question is what do the Kids have to read these days?
